The song, “We Wish You Well,” which Herb Strauss sang for many years at the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation benefit concerts, is now being put to use by the Music Therapy Department at Beth Israel Medical Center.
The song, by LSLF Medical Board Member Eugene Goldberg and LSLF Board Member Peter Haas, “went public” in February when cabaret and jazz singer Karen Oberlin sang it in her three-evening engagement at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Room. A member of the audience, who works in Beth Israel’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program, asked to use the number at the hospital. It is now one of the songs that patients sing as they strengthen their heart and breathing functions through the program. The sessions are funded through a grant by the Louis & Lucille Armstrong Foundation.
